1968 Shasta 1500 Renovation Day Two

by Gypsy

Finally…. We’ve done some more work.
Dad called me at 4pm on Saturday to tell me he’d been busting up Shastas all day long and repairing rotten wood. He has some pics that I’ll gladly share with you asap. They are pretty boring to me, but for you shasta renovation nuts out there that are into this same kind of project - well you can see what we are doing and call us crazy if you like.

We are learning alot about how these things were put together originally, and we are ignoring all that and just reinforcing the corners with plywood. This is gonna add some weight but more importantly, its gonna give us the stability that we need.

I’m real impressed with what my dad can do. If you put a level on the camper. the bubble is right where it oughta be. This is big news considering the angle it was sitting at the day we picked it up.

So, we went to Lowe’s to pick up some Luan for the walls. We found 6 nice big sheets of real wood paneling at $10 per sheet. I also dropped about $100 just on insulation and learned a thing or two about R-values.

I’ll be back with the outcome from newly purchased products. Its gonna get fun eventually. We get to pick out flooring and build cabinets and all kinds of aesthetic choices will be made. And then we will hit the road!!
