Venice Contra Rocks

Venice Contra Rocks by Betsy Moyer

I had a really nice walk with the waves on Venice Beach last weekend.
And I had the new Vampire Weekend album in my ears - specifically on repeast - the song “I think you’re a Contra”.

It was beautiful, so I snapped a pic with my iPhone app (Hipstamatic).

Pictures from the Trip Out West

After taking the Shasta to Austin, TX and back - I moved and thus abandoned the project. Now my brother is the Gypsy. He is living in it temporarily until he rambles on to the next place. On Christmas Eve we cuddled up in it with a space heater and watched Henry & June (a lovely movie about the love between Henry Miller and Anais Nin).

These are the pics from October.

Oh, we took a trip out west

And we’re back, and I’ve already hugged my dog 100 million times cause I missed him SOO much.

I was told that the chances of getting into some mess over a false tag was about 90% and I thought those were good odds, so we tacked on an old trailer tag with a 2003 expiration date and loaded her up and hit the road to Austin, Texas by way of Memphis, TN.

The road trip itself was quite fun and my brother Chris is an excellent travel partner. We had a great time talking and singing and exploring. There is probably no one better than a brother when it comes to spending a concentrated amount of time in a small space. And the ACL music festival that he treated me to was just sick insane awesome. I have stories and pictures and things that require organization. I’m working on that today! I have a lot of bloggy catch up to do.

Its hard to be a Rambler

Into the Wild movie poster

Seriously… It’s hard.. Especially when you have to fill out all this paperwork.

I bought my camper from a REBEL. You know what I mean?
This guy hardly had teeth, let alone a title! And of course I didn’t get many details.

So, I’ve stopped by the DMV and picked up a MVR-4 form where if I can track down the previous title owner - they can sign the trailer over to me. and then I can wait 15 days (at which point I will be in AUSTIN TEXAS SANS CAMPER) to hear back. And I also picked up some paperwork about filing an Indemnity Bond.

I rewatched Into the Wild the other night on TV and saw the part where he tries to get info about kayaking down the river and learns he must apply for a registration, and the waiting list is 15 years. Seriously…. you have to wait 15 years for permission to kayak down a river. Naturally he got a boat and threw in the water and climbed in. AND AS MUCH as I think it would be amazing to follow suit, and silently cruise through the SouthEast running from the LAW, towards the romantic sunset with my unregistered Vintage Shasta Camper Trailer - I’m sure it would go more like uh………… We get a flat, I call triple A, meanwhile a cop stops by to see if its okay and then berades me as to why I don’t have paperwork for my P.O.S. camper and then slaps me with a $800 fine and makes me abandon my dream, right there on the side of the road for a more resourceful rambler to pick up, renovate and live out of.

So I blew it for this trip. More to come on how all this pans out. Really?
Okay, I’ll start with researching the Yahoo Shasta Group. There must be a process for a titleless camper trailer.

Here’s a song to lift your spirits back up!!

Shoddy Camper Art

Most of owning this camper so far has just been about sitting back and fantasizing about my impending Gypsy lifestyle when I hit the road…. When times get tough, I doodle out this fantasy.

And because I’m such a great artist, I want to share today’s illustrations with you.

Consdering Wallpaper

I have been considering the feasibility of wallpaper, especially since that last post from Decor Maison. Let us note that one advantage will be the ability to cover up some of the old seams for a more finished look.

One of my favorite bloggers, Little Green Notebook, had a post today on inexpensive wallpapers from Sherwin Williams. If I am going to execute this Gypsy theme as I would like, then I’m going to have work really hard to mix patterns intelligently. I should totally be holding this wallpaper up to my linoleum floor to see if it can coexist. I’m not sure I like the pattern, but I am a fan of the color.

We are Floored!

I found and purchased my flooring, which is exciting. This has been one of the toughest decisions for me, and now that its made, I will have a direction for the other choices.
